"Designing such scenario's for new products is part of a trend away from the hardware aspects of products toward their function as the carrier of services. The next logical step would be for us not to own the hardware, but only to hire it when we need it. In other words, the centrality of the traditional object-product, will deminish in the mind of the consumer, and service will become paramount. The concept of property may even change. And certainly designers will find themselves being more designers of services than designers of objects."
